Ethical guidelines

MANUSYA places a strong emphasis on its roles and responsibilities in ensuring the accuracy and integrity the articles in our journal as well as their relevance to the humanities.

For editors and reviewers:

1. Editors and reviewers should treat all authors respectfully and without bias based on race, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, etc. They should use uniform criteria to objectively judge all manuscripts.

2. Editors should neither disclose the names of reviewers to authors nor reveal the names of authors to reviewers. Reviewers should abstain from contacting authors directly as well as from sharing manuscripts without permission of the editor.

3. Editors and reviewers should avoid conflicts of interest (i.e., they should not accept a paper in exchange for any type of favor or benefit). They should never join as co-authors of a manuscript under review.

4. Editors and reviewers should not use results from a submitted manuscript in their own publications without the consent of the author. They must wait until the manuscript is published before they can cite the study in their own work.

For authors:

1. Authors should cite references accurately and always credit the original sources. They should write in their own words, avoiding reduplication of others’ phrasing, and use quotations where necessary. They should also use a plagiarism-checking tool to detect any unexpected or unintentional  plagiarism

2. Authors should strive to provide an accurate account of their research. All statements and claims should be truthful and forthright. Data and images should be saved and should not be manipulated so as to result in inaccuracies. In the event that an author discovers an error after submitting the manuscript, they should immediately notify the editors.

3. Authors should explicitly declare potential competing interests and sources of financial support.

4. Authors should decide firmly in which journal they want their papers to be published. They must not simultaneously submit a single article or several articles of the same type to multiple journals.

The policies and guidelines adopted by MANUSYA conform to those of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as well as to those of other journals in the humanities.
